Sculptures
Galaxies
The freed sculpture is a subject that indirectly accompanies Manfred Wakolbinger for two decades, but manifests no earlier than 2016 in a group of works: In Galaxy, devoured copper spirals work their way out of glass pedestals; they strive upwards, mocking their actual weight. Or they float through the room totally liberated from Planet Earth, attached merely to scarcely visible wires. A series of under water photographs bearing the same title arise in tandem with Galaxy. As a backdrop to the copper creatures, they point to two spheres, which seem to magically bind Manfred Wakolbinger: the oceans and outer space. (Mona Horncastle)
